CBI arrests ex-official in health scheme scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a former government official on Saturday in Lucknow in connection with a multi-crore-rupee scam related to the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Uttar Pradesh.
"We have arrested G.K. Batra, former MD of the state-owned Shreetron India, from Lucknow on Saturday morning in the NRHM scam," a CBI official told IANS.
A day before arresting Batra, the CBI took into custody Abhay Kumar Vajpayee, the former MD of Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC), and S.P. Ram, former director general, family welfare, and Sourav Jain, owner of a private firm.
The arrests were carried out by the investigation agency three days after searches at 60 locations across the country, including the residence of former Bahujan Samaj Party minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and his associates, over the NRHM scam.
The scam involves irregularities in medical supplies under the central government-funded NRHM.
