CBI case on ‘missing’ Arunachal IPS
The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against an IPS officer of Arunachal Pradesh for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
An IPS officer of 1998 batch, he was appointed by the Gauhati high court to probe the multi-crore PDS scam in Arunachal Pradesh in 2008.
He had gone missing in mysterious circumstances on October 17, 2012.
He resurfaced in New Delhi after a week, claiming that he escaped attacks of his adversaries and travelled in truck to New Delhi.
Suspecting foul play in his story, the Arunachal Pradesh government had handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe his claims.
The Central Bureau of Investigation, which registered the case, raided his house in Gurgaon and discovered huge assets that the IPS officer had possessed in the name of his wife after joining the service.
The IPS officer, who also availed a loan of `90 lakh, had a bungalow worth `20 crore in addition to several other financial transactions indicating his assets disproportionate to the known source of income, Central Bureau of Investigation sources said here on Wednesday.
The CBI sources said that interrogation of his personal staff, who accompanied him on October 17, the day he went missing, has revealed that missing drama was stage-managed by the officer himself.
His personal staffs, which included a inspector and his driver, have confessed and admitted that missing drama was planned by the IPS officer himself, CBI sources said.
Informing that the CBI was still probing the financial transactions and dealing of the IPS officer, sources said that the CBI would summon him, who has been placed under suspension, for interrogation very soon.
The IPS officer, who was probing the multi-crore rupees PDS scam, was in thick of a major controversy for chargesheeting and arresting former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Gegong Apang and five Congress MLAs, including ministers selectively that suited the political interest of then government.
Security sources said that investigation has indicated that the IPS officer was maintaining a close proximity with the Arunachal Pradesh leaders also though he was appointed by the Gauhati high court to probe the multi-crore rupees PDS scam.
