CBI chief to brief CVC today

Slammed by the Supreme Court over the missing files related to the Colagate scam, officials of the coal ministry on Saturday held an elaborate meeting with the CBI sleuths to discuss issues related to the documents sought by the agency.
Meanwhile, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has also scheduled a meeting with the CBI director Ranjit Sinha on Tuesday to discuss the matter.
According to sources coal ministry and CBI officials discussed the whereabouts of all files and documents sought by the agency.
The CBI sleuths were also updated about the Coal ministry’s effort to locate the missing files, sources added. “The ministry officials also discussed about those documents which have already been supplied to the agency.
The coal ministry has already handed over 769 files and other documents consisting of more than 1,50,000 pages to CBI,” sources said.
The CBI had on August 14 written a letter to the coal ministry stating that 225 files and documents pertaining to the Coalgate scam cases had still not been handed over to it by the ministry. This included 167 files pertaining to pre-2004 era during which NDA was in power. “The CBI sleuths discussed about the agency’s request for seeking minutes of the meeting of 26th, 35th and 36th screening committees from the ministry,” sources said.
“Issues related to applications of 157 private companies, which had applied for 45 coal blocks between 1993 to 2005, were also discussed at length with the coal ministry officials. Despite repeated reminders, the ministry has not provided applications of 157 companies to the CBI,” sources said. Besides, the agency officials discussed about the presentation and feedback forms submitted by two private companies for the allocation of Lohara East coal block.
