CBI clueless about ‘crucial paper’
A mysterious “chit” allegedly laying the foundation for the much-hyped Sohrabuddin “fake encounter” case which has already taken the cap of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s most trusted lieutenant Amit Shah and put several top IPS officers in the dock, is still intriguing the CBI as the agency has not been able to lay hands on the crucial “piece of paper”.
This has come to light in the latest status report of the CBI on Sohrabuddin fake encounter case submitted to the Supreme Court. While giving details about the Navrangpura firing case of 2004 lodged on the complaint of one Ms Beena Dave, working as receptionist in the office of Pioneer Infrastructure, a builders’ company of two brothers — Dashrath Patel and Raman Patel.
Ms Dave in her FIR lodged with Navrangpura police station had stated that on December 8, 2004 two unknown persons came to the company’s office and opened fire from their pistols damaging computer and furniture while abusing her.
“But the following circumstances indicated that the investigation (by Gujarat police) has been distorted with the objective to implicate Sohrabuddin in the firing case and also to victimise the owners (Patel brothers) and extort money form them,” the CBI claimed.
According the CBI report, the Gujarat ATS had planted a theory that a “chit” was handed over to Patel brothers by Ms Dave in which Sohrabuddin’s name and his mobile number were mentioned. The ATS had stated that the miscreants who fired shots in the company’s office had left the said “piece of paper” with Ms Dave, who subsequently handed it over to Ramn Patel. However, the CBI has discounted the ATS theory and stated that Ms Dave during questioning by the agency sleuths had “flatly denied about the existence of any such piece of paper.”
