CBI confronts Balwa with Telecom Raja
The CBI, probing the 2G spectrum scam, on Wednesday confronted Shahid Usman Balwa, the managing director of DB Realty and a promoter of Swan Telecom, with former telecom minister A. Raja and put direct questions to the duo related to the alleged favour given to certain private telecom companies while allotting 2G licences.
According to sources, Mr Raja was asked very specific questions related to the document pertaining to Swan Telecom seized on December 7, 2010. Mr Balwa was also confronted with the same documents in front of Mr Raja, sources added. The agency is also scrutinising the bank account details of Swan Telecom as well as the bank accounts of certain top officials of the same company. The company was awarded telecom licences at very low rates, sources added.
Shahid Balwa, a promoter of Swan Telecom, was brought to Delhi on Wednesday after a special court in Mumbai granted the CBI a two-day transit remand. Balwa has been charged with criminal misconduct and criminal conspiracy for his alleged role in the 2G scam. Balwa, who was arrested on Tuesday evening from his Bandra residence, was produced before special CBI judge S.C. Chandak, who allowed the agency two days of transit remand. Balwa will be produced before a Delhi court on Thursday.
