CBI files fresh FIR, takes over Prajapati encounter case
The CBI in Mumbai on Friday registered a fresh first information report (FIR) in the fake encounter death of Tulsiram Prajapati, a key witness in the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausarbi.
Prajapati, a close aide of alleged gangster Sohrabuddin, was killed in an encounter near Chapri village in Banaskantha district on December 28, 2006. The CBI has appointed Vinay Kumar as investigation officer while superintendent of police Amitabh Thakur will be the supervising officer under CBI deputy director P. Kandaswamy, who will be overall in charge of the case.
According to CBI sources, an FIR has been registered against unknown persons. “We have registered an FIR and have started investigations,” said a senior CBI official. According to sources, Gujarat’s former minister of state for home Amit Shah is likely to be arrested in this case along with Vipul Agrawal and Dinesh M.N., both suspended IPS officers, and Ashish Pandya, a sub-inspector.
The Supreme Court on April 8 had ordered that the probe into Prajapati’s killing be transferred to the CBI following the appeal filed by his mother.
