CBI: Foreigners acted as middlemen
The CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in overlays contracts has revealed that certain “foreign nationals” allegedly played the role of middlemen between the Organising Committee members and the overseas firms whose Indian consortiums had bagged the contracts.
According to sources, at least seven foreign nationals are under the scanner of the CBI who allegedly played crucial role of “middlemen” for the overlays contract, which was awarded to Meroform India, an Indian consortium of France-based GL Events (an event management company). The Meroform Indian Ltd. was awarded a contract worth `165 crores for supplying furniture and other equipment to certain stadiums.
“Investigation by the agency has also revealed that GL Events and its Indian consortium Meroform India formed GLEE, another joint company, which got the contract worth `165 crores of the CWG,” sources said. The agency is investigating the circumstances under which the third company got the contract from the OC, sources added.
The probe has revealed that certain foreign nationals on behalf of the French company allegedly played the role of “middlemen” for getting the contract.
The agency is trying to get more details about those nationals. The companies which mainly got overlays contracts worth `700 crores are PICO-Deepali, Nussli, GL Meroform and ESAJV D-Art Indo-consortium.
