Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's wife Dayaluammal got benefits of ill-health and 'non-understanding' of any language other than Tamil from being chargesheeted in 2G spectrum case, CBI today told a Delhi court.

The investigating agency in its second chargesheet maintained that due to her advanced age and 'non-understanding' of any language other than Tamil, she was only fulfilling the legal requirments of the company - Kalaignar TV Pvt Ltd - in which she is one of the Directors and where the money connected with the scam has travelled.

"As per these minutes (of the Board meeting), she also informed the Board that due to her age and non-understanding of any language other than Tamil, after appointment as Director, she will attend the meeting only to suffice the legal requirments to have quorum and not for anything else," the chargesheet said and CBI preferred to name her as one of the 154 witnesses.

The agency said Dayaluammal had delegated her power to Kalaignar TV Director Sharad Kumar to run the affairs of the company.

"She categorically informed that in view of her old age and deteiorating health she cannot be expected to give any attention to the company's affairs and requested Sharad Kumar to exercise degree of skill which may reasonably be expected of a person of his age, knowledge, experience, calibre and status," the chargesheet said.

CBI also said during the probe it came to light that "the board minutes also noted that Dayaluammal Karunanidhi can understand only Tamil and cannot read, write, speak or even understand any other language and the fact of the same was already intimated to the Registrar of Companies while executing the incorporation documents".

Dayaluammal's name had figured prominently during the probe and there was speculation that she could be made an accused in the case.
