CBI grills close aide of Dawood

The CBI recently questioned Tariq Parveen, a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in connection with its probe into the Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter case. Jamal, a resident of Bhavnagar, was killed in an alleged fake encounter by the Gujarat police near Galaxy Cinema in Naroda area on January 13, 2003.
“Parveen’s role is being probed by the CBI in the Jamal’s fake encounter case. He was recently examined by the CBI sleuths at length”, sources said. If required, Parveen, who is out on bail, may be questioned by the CBI again, they added.
The agency sleuths suspects that Jamal was allegedly killed by accused Gujarat cops at the behest of Tariq Parveen.
The agency is also probing the role of certain officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in this regard, they added.
“The CBI has already questioned a retired IB officer, who was then attached to the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Mumbai, in this connection”, sources said. Jamal had in 2002 allegedly worked as a house help at the Mumbai and Dubai residences of Parveen and was once booked on gambling charges in Gujarat. “Probe has established that a false source report on Jamal was allegedly created by IB officers that led to his detention in December 2002 in Mumbai. Role of Parveen and Mehtar, if any, in the encounter of Jamal will be mentioned by the agency in its supplementary chargesheet”, sources said. The Central Bureau of Investigation is preparing to file a supplementary chargesheet in the Jamal’s encounter case by the end of August.
Last December, the CBI had filed its chargesheet in the case against eight Gujarat policemen, including two retired officers, invoking charges of criminal conspiracy and murder.
Investigations have revealed that Jamal was allegedly kept in illegal custody by Gujarat and Maharashtra police before he was killed in Ahmedabad on January 13, 2003. After the shootout, Gujarat police had claimed that Jamal was a Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) operative and he was on a mission to kill the then chief minister of the state Narendra Modi.
The state police had also claimed that there was specific intelligence input about Jamal.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
