CBI to inspect 11 coal blocks again
The CBI, probing Colgate scam, may inspect at least 11 coal blocks allocated to private companies in Jharkhand and Chattisgarh again.
According to sources, decision to reinspect 11 coal blocks in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh has been taken following the analysis of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. The CAG report on the allocation of coal blocks was tabled in the Parliament on August 17.
The agency sleuths recently inspected more than 60 coal blocks allocated to both private players and public sector enterprises between 2006 and 2009 in Jharkhand, Chhattishgarh and Karnataka. Refusing to give details of eleven blocks, as it may affect the inspection process, the sources said some discrepancies have been discovered.
“After reinspecting the coal blocks, the agency may call representatives of these companies for questioning. Probe by the agency has revealed that a considerable number of private companies were allocated coal blocks in Jharkhand and Chhattis-garh despite their alleged ineligibility”, sources said.
The CBI, which has registered a “preliminary enquiry” (PE) to probe irregularities in the allotment of coal blocks, will soon file a regular case against certain private companies. The agency may examine officials of certain coal-supplying states also, sources added.
