CBI investigation in two murder cases
The Manipur government has decided to hand over two murder cases, including the one where the son of a senior minister is an accused, to the CBI, official sources said on Tuesday.
This decision in the case of the killing of Irom Roger (20) allegedly by N Ajay Meitei (27) on March 20 and the killing of the then chairman of the state board of secondary education N Kunjabihari in his office on January 11 was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh last evening.
Roger was allegedly shot dead by Meitei from his licensed pistol while the former attempted to overtake the latter's vehicle at Kwakeithel area near Imphal airport, sources said adding that personal enmity could be the reason.
Meitei is the son of Manipur irrigation and flood control and sports minister N Bire Meitei along with his four friends who were with him on the spot have already surrendered to the police.
In the other case on January 11, Kunjabihari was shot dead by some assailants in his office, sources said adding that two persons were apprehended and were now in judicial custody.
The motive behind the shootout was not yet known but official sources did not rule out rivalry among officials of the board of secondary education.
State unit of the BJP, however, has protested the cabinet decision to go for a CBI enquiry as the accused Meitei has already confessed to the police.
