CBI likely to quiz ex-chief of Rail Board
The CBI is set to question a former Railway Board chairman over with its probe into the “Railgate” bribery scandal. Sources said the name of a former CRB figured in conversations between four accused — Vijay Singla, nephew of former rail minister Pawan Kumar Bansal; suspended Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar; and middlemen Manjunath and Sandeep Goel.
Sources added the agency was likely to call all officials, including former officials, whose names figured in the conversations for questioning. The CBI has collected files on railway promotions and tenders, details of which emerged in phone intercepts.
“The CBI will examine railway ministry records on appointments made and tenders issued by the Railway Board in the last five years to establish the authenticity of around 1,000 telephonic intercepts”, sources said. However, they refused to give specific details of the contracts and promotions under scrutiny as it might adversely affect the investigation.
