CBI may begin arrests next week
As the political temperatures rise in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming elections, the CBI probe into the NRHM scam and the murders of three medical officials, which has ample political ramifications, is also reaching its logical conclusion.
According to highly-placed sources in the CBI, the premier investigating agency could begin arrests in the multi-crore scam early next week.
The CBI has summoned former family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha for interrogation on Tuesday and former health minister Anant Misra has been asked to report to the CBI headquarters on Wednesday. Both the former ministers will be interrogated in Delhi to “avoid pressures in Lucknow”.
Mr Kushwaha, once a key Mayawati aide, has reportedly agreed to turn approver and “cooperate” with the CBI. Mr Kushwaha, if sources are to be believed, has agreed to tell the CBI about the passage and investment of money collected from the scam and also the list of beneficiaries of this.
The CBI has already interrogated former principal health secretary Pradeep Shukla and secretary Prabhat Kumar Sarangi, both of whom were posted in the health and family welfare departments during the period of the scam and murders.
“We have enough evidence in our hands, both in the NRHM scam and the triple murders. The murders were a result of the scam and distribution of money and a number of top politicians including MP, MLC and MLA will be in the net once we initiate action,” the CBI official said. It may be recalled that two CMOs, Vinod Arya and V.P. Singh, were shot dead in Lucknow in October 2012 and April 2011 respectively.
