CBI may file fresh 2g firs
The CBI may file separate FIRs in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in the award of spectrum licences since 2001, which covered the stint of three former communications ministers, including late Pramod Mahajan, Arun Shourie and Dayanidhi Maran.
According to sources the agency, which registered the preliminary enquiry (PE) to ascertain whether or not the provision of “first-come-first-serve” for granting spectrum licences was followed by the predecessors of former Telecom minister A Raja, is scrutinising certain crucial documents recovered recently from the department of telecommunications (DoT).
Besides, the agency officials are also recording statements of some serving as well retired officials of the DoT, sources added.
Sources further said, “We are also recording the statements of those DoT officials who were associated with the award of spectrum licences during the tenure of three former ministers. We may file separate FIRs for alleged irregularities during the regime of the three ministers,” sources said.
