CBI may grill 2 BJP leaders
After filing the chargesheet against Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah and 14 others in connection with the alleged fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, the CBI is now preparing to question two more top leaders of BJP, including a former minister in the Vasundhara Raje government of Rajasthan, in connection with the case. The agency is expected to issue summons to both leaders in this regard.
According to sources, questioning of both politicians will start only after completing the interrogation of Amit Shah. It is believed that Amit Shah reportedly contacted both politicians before and after the death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi and allegedly discussed the incident at length.
“Both politicians are well acquainted with the case. There are allegations that both BJP leaders also knew about the ‘supari’ paid for allegedly killing Sohrabbuddin. This is being verified”, sources said. It is also believed that both politicians allegedly played a crucial role in arranging funds for the same, sources added.
Some of the big traders engaged in marble trading in Rajasthan are also under the scanner of the investigating agencies. Certain traders have already been identified by the investigating officials, sources said, adding that the agency will also issue summons to them for questioning. “Investigation by the agency has reportedly revealed that a huge amount to the tune of several crores was allegedly paid for the killing, which is still being verified. Besides, officials are also trying to find out the mode of transaction, in case the payment was made,” sources added.
Apart from some of the bank officials who have been chargesheeted by the agency, the role of some more officials of certain banks is also under the scanner.
Once the agency gets substantial evidences against them, they too will be summoned for questioning, sources said.
“The CBI has so far examined 278 witnesses, collected 191 documents and 70 material objects. The investigation was spread over five states including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra”, sources added.
