CBI may re-record statements
After questioning several ministers of the Gujarat government in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, the CBI is now considering recording the statements of some witnesses again in connection with the case.
According to sources, the agency sleuths are planning to record the statements of certain witnesses about an alleged meeting held in November 2011 to decide the strategy to obstruct the investigation of the fake encounters of Ishrat Jahan and three others. Suspended IPS officer G.L. Singhal, who was among the nine persons who allegedly attended the meeting, had submitted two pen drives to the CBI containing the recorded conversation of the meeting. Singhal is now out on bail.
“The Central Bureau of Investigation may file at least two supplementary chargesheets in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. While the first supplementary chargesheet will be based on the agency’s investigations into the conspiracy which led to the encounter of Mumbai-based teenager, the second one will give details of the CBI’s probe into the two pen drives carrying the purported conversations of the Gujarat government officials discussing ways and means to save the accused cops”, sources said.
