CBI not to submit 2nd report
The CBI is unlikely to submit any further status report in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case immediately as the apex court is set to take up the contentious matter on Thursday.
The agency has already filed a status report on July 30, but it did not cover the interrogation of former state minister Amit Shah, a close aide of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the agency got his custody only on August 7.
Since the CBI was yet to compile its assessment on the interrogation of Mr Shah, filing of a second comprehensive report on the issue might take some time, sources said.
However, the sources did not rule out the CBI counsel K.T.S. Tulsi, a former additional solicitor-general, engaged specially for the case, making certain statement or even give “brief written” submission on the Amait Shah aspect to the top court.
The CBI filed the status report July 30 to meet the apex court’s January 12 deadline to complete the investigation in six months, while handing over the probe to the agency.
