CBI: OC ignored international consultant advice
The CBI probe into the alleged irregularities committed in Commonwealth Games contracts has established that top former officials of the Organising Committee (OC) including Suresh Kalmadi ignored the advice of international consultants while awarding result update system contract (worth `107 crores) to a Swiss company.
The CBI on Monday arrested sacked OC chairman in connection with irregularities committed in awarding contract to a Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the Games, causing a loss of `95 crores to the exchequer.
“Probe by the agency has revealed that the accused OC officials, including Kalmadi, even ignored the advice given by international consultants, appointed by the OC, while awarding contract to M/S Swiss Timing. Two international consultants appointed by OC had reportedly advised that Spain-based company could not be disqualified for the TSR system,” sources said.
Sources further said, “Probe has also revealed that the accused OC officials even directed his subordinates to make changes in the tender document, related to TSR, at the eleventh hour. The accused officials also asked his subordinates that the decision to change tender documents had been taken after consulting top official of the ministry concerned”. The CBI is planning to send a LR to Switzerland authorities for knowing the details of M/S Swiss Timing. It will be sent very soon, sources added.
“Besides, further probe into the alleged irregularities committed in awarding CWG contracts related to Delhi government, DDA, NDMC, Sports Authority of India, MCD and other government departments will also begin soon,” sources in the CBI said.
The CBI has already registered two FIRs in connection with irregularities committed in awarding CWG contracts related to NDMC and DDA, sources said adding more FIRs, involving government agencies, will be registered in a day or two. While the SAI had awarded contracts worth `2,460 crores to different contractors for several Games venues, the DDA had awarded contracts worth `827 crores (excluding CWG village), sources said.
