CBI OPPOSES BAIL PLEA OF 2 ACCUSED
The prosecution on Monday filed its reply opposing the bail application of two accused in the Adarsh scam, Madan Mohan Wanchoo and R.C. Thakur. The CBI’s reply stated the two accused were highly influential people and if released might tamper with evidence.
Wanchoo and Thakur had applied for bail, claiming they had not got flats in the Adarsh society as a quid-pro-quo arrangement, but had actually bought them legally.
They also cited the recent interim report of the two-member judicial commission in which the state was pointed out to be the owner of the land on which the Adarsh society is built.
The CBI maintained that its investigation was being carried out under the Criminal Procedure Code and hence, the findings of the commission’s report would not have any bearing on the investigation.
The reply also said there were some important witnesses still to be examined by the CBI and that the release of the accused on bail would severely prejudice the investigation, as they may tamper with the material evidence in the case.
The matter has been adjourned to April 30.
