CBI phone-tap reveals Railgate dirt
The CBI cellphone surveillance of Vijay Singla, nephew of railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, is leading to sensational new revelations. The tapped conversations between Mr Singla and his associate Sandeep Goel has Mr Singla revealing details of how he managed to get the appointment of Mr Kulbhushan cleared as the next Railway Board chairman.
Mr Kulbhushan is now member (electrical) and is tipped to succeed Vinay Mittal as chairman once he retires in June this year.
Mr Singla and Mr Goel, as well as seven others, have already been arrested by the CBI for taking a `90-lakh bribe from railway board member Mahesh Kumar to get him a “wet posting”.
Sources said the CBI started monitoring the cellphone of Mahesh Kumar after a specific tipoff about irregularities in railway ministry appointments.
In the course of this investigation, it came across the numbers of Mr Singla and Mr Goel, which too were put under surveillance.
