CBI prepares its business list
The CBI, probing the 2G spectrum scam, is reportedly preparing a list of government nominees to different public sector units for their alleged role in the allotment of 2G spectrum. Besides, the agency is also preparing a list of chartered accountancy firms which allegedly helped manipulate the books of several telecom companies.
According to sources, a section of businessmen, who were also government nominees to several PSUs, allegedly played a crucial role in the allotment of 2G spectrum licences. If required, the agency may question former telecom minister A. Raja in this regard.
“There are allegations that some of the government nominees to different PSUs were in direct touch with top officials of DoT when the process of 2G spectrum allotment started. The government nominees were also in contact with third parties (private persons), who allegedly played crucial roles in effecting policy changes,” sources said.
There are also reports that the government nominees either handled and facilitated cross-border fund transfers or knew about the same, sources said. The questioning of these nominees will start very soon, sources added.
“The CBI has also identified certain CA associates and firms, who worked as entry operators for different private telecom companies. They also provided services for arrangement of alleged adjustment entries and structured payoffs,” the sources said, adding that they too would be questioned very soon.
The CBI has started analysing documents recovered during its raids.
