CBI probe in railway job scam
The Railway Board on Monday granted permission to the CBI to probe the role of suspended chairman of Mumbai Railway Recruitment Board, S.M. Sharma, in connection with a recruitment scam fo-llowing the arrest of his son and seven others.
CBI spokesperson Harsh Bhal said, “The Railway Board has accorded the permission to the CBI to conduct investigation into the role of chairman, RRB, Mumbai, in the Railway examination paper leak scam.” The CBI had on June 19 claimed to have unearthed a multi-crore Railway recruitment scam and had arrested eight persons, including Vivek Bhardwaj Sharma, son of S.M. Sharma, A.K. Jagannatham, the then ADRM in Raipur and his son Srujan.
The Railways immediately suspended Sharma and said that it will cooperate with the CBI. The CBI had alleged that the accused in the scam used to charge Rs 3.5 lakhs from an aspirant to leak the question paper.
Meanwhile, the Union Railway ministry is understood to have asked the Railway Recruitment Bo-ard to devise a strategy to make these exams foolpro-of. Sources said the board, which holds these examinations, has been asked to take appropriate measures to prevent recurrence of leakages of question papers and ensure fairness.
