CBI probes distortions in Ruchika case reports
The CBI, which investigated the Ruchika Girhotra molestation and suicide case, is now trying to find out why her father S.C. Girhotra’s name was mentioned as “Subhash Chand” in the inquest report. CBI officials are also trying to find out who is responsible for mentioning Ruchika’s name as “Rubi” in the same report.
S.C. Girhotra, had mentioned in the FIR registered on December 29, 2009 at Panchkula’s Sector 5 police station that the names had been intentionally changed. The copy of the FIR is in the possession of this newspaper.
Mr Girhotra says in the FIR, “The name of my daughter was intentionally changed from Ruchika to Rubi and my name from S.C. Girhotra to Subhash Chand in the inquest proceedings.” Sources said the matter is being investigated to find out why such changes were made during the inquest proceedings. The CBI is also investigating how the Panchkula police carried out the entire inquest proceedings under Section 174 (police to inquire and report on suicide) of the CrPC when it did not have any jurisdiction as Ruchika had died at PGI Hospital, which is in Chandigarh.
“No statement under Section 175 (recording of statement of persons who may be aware of facts related to the case) of the CrPC was recorded and my signatures were taken on blank papers... One Veena was shown (as) my wife whereas my wife had already died in the year 1988,” Mr Girhotra says in the FIR.
