CBI quizzes RSS man in Mecca Masjid case
The CBI on Thursday questioned senior functionary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Indresh Kumar in connection with 2007 Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad. The agency also asked him specific questions related to his speech after the 2002 blast near Raghunath Mandir in Jammu.
The senior RSS functionary was grilled for almost six hours by the CBI officials. The CBI officials maintained that Mr Kumar was questioned in connection with Mecca Masjid blast and he was asked about the facts and circumstances related to the incident.
According to sources, Mr Kumar was questioned about the organisational structure of the RSS and his links with certain individuals allegedly connected with the blast.
He was specifically asked about his relations with Ramchandra Kalsangra, the prime accused wanted in connection with Mecca masjid blast case. Sources said that Mr Kumar was also asked questions related to his speech immediately after the 2002 blast near Raghunath Mandir in Jammu, in which 20 persons were killed.
Talking to reporters, after his questioning by the CBI, Mr Kumar said, “The CBI took my personal details and asked me about the activities of RSS and my personal life. They asked for information about the RSS organisational activities, Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Himalaya Parivar and other organisations.”
When asked if the CBI had asked any questions regarding the Mecca Masjid blast case, his lawyer Meenakshi replied in the negative.
The RSS leader came out of the CBI headquarters amid slogan shouting by his supporters. A large number of RSS supporters, including Muslim members camped at the CBI headquarters and offered “namaz” even as he was being questioned by the agency.
