CBI raids on 4 accused in Adarsh scam in 7 cities
CBI officials on Sunday searched through the residences of several of the 13 accused in the Adarsh housing scam, including those of society general secretary R.C. Thakur, Brig. M.M. Wanchoo (Retd), Congress leader Kanhaiyalal Gidwani and state information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari. CBI sources said they would also summon the accused for questioning.
The CBI conducted raids in seven cities — including Patna, Nagpur, Pune and Mumbai — at the residences of promoters Wanchoo, Gidwani and Thakur. Two flats and one office of Mr Gidwani and three houses of Mr Thakur in Thane, Nagpur and Bihar were raided. The Adarsh Society office in Colaba, Mumbai, was also searched. In the evening, the Thane residence of urban development department official P.V. Deshmukh was also raided. “Thakur, Wanchoo and Gidwani were not present when the searches were conducted. We are likely to issue notices to them, summoning them for questioning,” a senior CBI official said. The CBI recovered desktop computers, laptops and some documents that an agency team will be analy-sing. “The electronic items will be sent to Hyderabad and Delhi for examination,” a source said.
