CBI ready to chargesheet ex-IB officers
With the claim that its probe into the conspiracy leading to the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter was complete, the CBI is ready to file a supplementary chargesheet naming former Intelligence Bureau officials as accused.
CBI sources said: “The supplementary chargesheet will be based on scientific evidence collected during the probe. Besides, findings of documents provided by the home ministry and analysis of the conduct of former IB officials before and after the encounter will be a crucial part of the chargesheet.” CBI sleuths claim they have enough evidence to prove the direct involvement of former IB officials in hatching the conspiracy that led to the encounter, sources said, adding lawyers had vetted all this evidence.
“The CBI also found a former IB officer and another senior Gujarat police official interacted with Ishrat and Javed at Khodiyar farm a few days before the encounter. It has evidence proving she was abducted by the Gujarat police from Vasad toll booth and the IB officers had information about this”, a source added.
CBI sleuths also scrutinised the call records of former IB officers and tracked their locations before and after the encounter.

“Although the IB did not provide logbooks related to the movements of the vehicles of IB officials before and after the encounter, the CBI has gathered enough evidence in this regard. The agency will elaborate the movements of the intelligence officials, before and after the encounter, in its supplementary chargesheet. It will be filed by the end of this month,” sources said.
It has been proved suspended IPS officer D.G. Vanzara and other Gujarat cops had collected weapons from the IB office in Ahmedabad and planted them on Ishrat and others. “Another suspended IPS officer, G.L. Singhal, went to IB office June 14 and collected a bag of weapons used in the encounter. The CBI has evidence to prove that a former IB officer instructed his juniors to hand over a bag of weapons to Singhal. It will be mentioned in the supplementary probe report,” sources said.
