CBI to record Trai officials’ statements
The CBI, which is probing alleged violations regarding spectrum allocation between 2001 and 2007, will soon start recording statement of top officials of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). The agency is investigating alleged irregularities in awarding telecom licences during former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran.
According to sources the agency is scrutinising the recommendations related to spectrum pricing and spectrum allocation procedure made by the Trai in 2005. There are allegations that this was not placed before the telecom commission, which oversees important policy decisions relating to the telecom sector, during Maran tenure, this is being probed by the CBI, sources said.
“This is the reason that the agency officials are planning to call some Trai officials for their clarification over the issue. If required, the CBI officials will also record the statement of certain officials of the telecom commission in this regard,” sources said.
The agency will also start recording statement of officials of certain private banks from July 13.
