CBI seeks details of Patel in QBR scam
The CBI is set to send a Letter of Request to authorities concerned in London to get the details of the functioning of Ashish Patel, owner of A.M. Films and Cars, who has been booked by the agency on the charges of forgery and cheating in connection with alleged irregularities during the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) held in London in 2010.
According to sources, the agency has already booked Mr Patel in two cases and now his interrogation was necessary for the agency, sources said. The agency is likely to send Letter of Request to British authorities to get details of Mr Patel, sources said. The CBI has already arrested T. S. Darbari, who was joint director general (revenue marketing), and Sanjay Mohindroo, the deputy director general (marketing), with the Organising Committee (OC) of the Commonwealth games.
“The agency officials are interrogating both arrested officials of the CBI. Besides, the agency has also questioned certain other officials of the OC in connection with probe related to alleged irregularities committed in QBR,” sources said. On the basis of initial findings by the agency, questioning of OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi in connection with the case is almost certain, sources said. Sources further said, “Agency has also started probe into the alleged large scale financial irregularities in contracts worth `700 crores awarded towards overlay for the Games.”
