CBI summons Geetha Johri

The CBI continued their interrogation of former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah at the Sabarmati Central Jail for the second consecutive day here on Thursday. The proceedings are being video graphed as per the court directive.

Mr Shah’s interrogation inside the prison will continue tomorrow as well.
“We questioned him regarding calls he made to the police officials during and after encounter of Sohrabuddin and murder of Kauser Bi and whether he tried to scuttle the probe when CID crime was probing the case,” the official said.
On Wednesday also, the ex-minister was not “cooperative” during the interrogation, complained the interrogators.
The prosecution, which already chargesheeted Mr Shah with 14 others for criminal conspiracy, abduction, twin murders, extortion and destruction of evidence, will seek his police custody at later stage after interrogation of some other witnesses in the case.
Meanwhile, the CBI has summoned IPS officer Geetha Johri for questioning regarding the sensational encounter case which she handled when the probe was with the Gujarat police.
The Supreme Court, while transferring the case to the Central agency in January 2010, had come down heavily on Ms Johri and held that the Gujarat police had botched the investigation, which was not done in fair and impartial manner.
The Supreme Court had also come down heavily on the Gujarat police for failing to conduct impartial investigations and attempting to “mislead” the apex court by filing conflicting Action Taken Reports (ATRs) in the case. It had further said that while one of the investigating officers V.L. Solanki was proceeding in the right direction, Ms Johri had not been carrying out the investigation in the right manner. The court has said in its January 12 order that Ms Johri had not made any reference to the second report of Mr Solanki, and was not forwarded to this court. The court observed that Ms Johri mentioning the criminal background of Sohrabbuddin and the discussion among the accused officers concerning Sohrabbuddin was meant to obfuscate the inquiry.
