Centre clears tribunals on education
New Delhi, Aug. 23: The Union Cabinet on Monday cleared a mechanism for speedy resolution of matters relating to disputes in institutions of higher education. As cleared by the Cabinet, the Educational Tribunals Bill, 2010 seeks to set up a two-tier structure of educational tribunals at the national and state levels to adjudicate on disputes that arise in the higher education system.
Sources said that the Bill is likely to be considered and passed in this session. The passage of this Bill paves the way for other important educational reforms legislation like Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Technical, Medical Educational Instit-utions and Universities Bill, 2010 and National Accre-ditation Authority Bill.
The state tribunals will adjudicate on matters concerning teachers, employees and students of institutions in the respective states. The national tribunal would deal with all matters concerning regulatory bodies in higher education.
