Centre ignored TN Padma demand: CM
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday slammed the Centre for its perennial hostility towards her government and cited as an example Delhi’s rejection of her recommendation of Padma awards to legendary music composers Viswanathan-Ramamurthy.
“I had sent the recommendation for Padma awards for Viswanathan and T.K. Ramamurthy last year but being hostile towards our government, the Centre rejected it. A day will soon come when my word will be honoured (at the Centre) and then, I will ensure that these composers get the awards,” the chief minister said speaking at the 14th anniversary celebration of Jaya TV at the packed Nehru Indoor Stadium here.
She congratulated Jaya TV for emerging victorious despite suffering several problems from political adversaries and the Union Government, besides 'external enemies and internal conspiracies'.
“In English, they call it baptism by fire”.
Heaping encomiums on the composer duo for the delightful songs they had tuned for hundreds of films, Ms Jayalalithaa said they had impressed even classical musicians by their cine songs.
“Just as the Gupta reign is called the golden age in Indian history, we must acknowledge that the heydays of Viswanathan-Ramamurthy as composers must be termed the golden era of film music. It is truly saddening that they were ignored while deciding on the Padma and other national awards,” the chief minister said.
