Centre may post report to TRS, BJP
With the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the BJP refusing to attend the January 6 meeting on Telangana, the government on Monday said that it was convened just to share the Srikrishna Committee report on a separate Telangana state with political parties and not to go into the issue in detail.
According to sources, the meeting was convened by the Union home minister P. Chidambaram to hand over the Srikrishna report, which was submitted to him on December 30. The meeting is also expected to finalise a mutually convenient date for a future meeting when the parties can come back and put forward their views on the report, sources added.
Sources further said, “In the January 6 meeting, no one is expecting any breakthrough. Parties are yet to see the report. The meeting has been convened to give them time to discuss the report at their respective party level”.
When asked about TRS’ allegation that by inviting two representatives from each party, the Centre was trying to seek divergent views, sources said, “If any party wants to send a single representative, it is welcome.” The meeting has been primarily convened to hand over the report and finalise a mutually convenient date for a future meeting on the issue, sources said, adding that the Centre was likely to send the report through post if any party boycotts the meeting. The TRS has reportedly decided not to attend the January 6 meeting in New Delhi, saying it was a “deliberate attempt” to seek divergent opinions on the issue. Echoing similar views, the BJP also said it will not participate in the meeting.
Sources said that, in any case, the home ministry would upload the report on its website after the meeting.
