Centre mulls Kerala-TN talks
A senior Hurriyat Conference leader has admitted that the separatists cannot compete with mainstream parties through “sermons, media statements and sugar-coated phraseology”.
Bilal Gani Lone, the leader of his faction of People’s Conference which is a powerful constituent of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat Conference, said on Sunday that “pro-freedom” leadership should review its strategy in order to take its campaign to logical conclusion and urged it to bridge the disconnect created with the masses over the years. He told a workers’ meet at Zaloora outside northwestern town of Sopore, “Mainstream parties, whether it is National Conference, People’s Democratic Party or others, have resources as well as the Centre at their back. We need to have a comprehensive strategy, so that people don’t fall prey to their politics of deceit.”
He added, “It should be formulated keeping in view all the factors as well as our limitations.”
Mr Lone, who is on the high-power central executive of Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz), also said, “Sermons, media statements and sugar-coated phraseology over the unification from different quarters haven’t proved to be of any help in the past. Let those who harp on unity first disband their individual parties, then go to the doors of others for unification.”

‘No politics in sharing stage with advani’
Umesh Mohite
Mumbai, Dec. 4
NCP president Sharad Pawar, who shared a dais in Ratnagiri on Sunday with senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, made it clear that there was no political reason behind him sharing a stage with the veteran leader. This is the second time in the week that the agriculture minister has shared the dais with Opposition members. Two days ago, he was seen in Dadar warming up to Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, something that triggered off speculations in political circles.
Mr Pawar and Mr Advani were at Ratnagiri for the inauguration of the Pramod Mahajan Smriti Bhavan at Chiplun.
“Last week when I attended a function in Mumbai on the occasion of Manohar Joshi completing 75 years, there were articles in newspapers, speculating on how the meet would affect my decisions in politics. But its not like people with different political views cannot be friends. Pramod Mahajan was a friend,” said Mr Pawar.
At the event, Mr Advani also said that one should look beyond politics to maintain friendships. He added that the date of the function was not convenient for Mr Pawar. But Mr Pawar had made it very clear that as long as Mr Advani was comfortable with the dates, he would make time for it.”
