Centre tells states to be alert
The Centre has asked all states to beef up security to deal with any law and order problems arising in the event of the Supreme Court ordering the Allahabad high court on Tuesday to deliver its judgment on the Ayodhya title suit.
Central and state police forces have been asked to remain alert and reserve forces have been kept on standby, a government official said. The level of security preparedness will be same as September 24 when the judgment was expected to be first delivered, the official added. The home ministry has identified 32 sensitive locations across the country — four of them in Uttar Pradesh — where there is a potential to “evoke sharp reactions” following the verdict.
Against the demand of 63,000 paramilitary personnel to deal with any situation arising out of the Allahabad high court verdict, the Central government has provided 5,200 armed guard, including Rapid Action Force, to Uttar Pradesh. The Centre is keeping ready paramilitary forces at eight to ten strategic locations, closer to airports, for immediate deployment in the places of trouble anywhere in the country.
The home ministry has already prepared a contingency plan to deal with any situation arising out of the court judgment which may come even on Tuesday itself if the top court allows to do so.
Sources said that the week’s delay in the Ayodhya court verdict has added to the home ministry’s woes which is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games beginning October 3 and any incident following the verdict now could fuel tension.
