Chandrababu Naidu differs with partymen on BJP
Hyderabad: On Sunday morning, Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu discussed the issue of a tie-up with the BJP in detail with senior party leaders Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Revuri Prakash Reddy, Kambhampati Rammohan Rao, MPs Sujana Chowdary and C.M. Ramesh.
“It pains me that some of our leaders are talking of various proposals before the media; how can we have a tie-up with the BJP? How can we forego the Muslim vote permanently?" Naidu reportedly said.
“There is no question of an electoral understanding with the BJP, the party politburo will decide on alliances as always," said Rammohan Rao, the TD spokesperson.
Naidu nixes Errabelli bid to ride with Modi wave
N. Chandrababu Naidu has put down a proposal by senior party leader from Telangana Errabelli Dayakar Rao for an alliance with the BJP in Telangana to cash in on the positive impact of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
While on Saturday evening Naidu had informed Rao that “this was not the right time” to discuss alliances, on Sunday he flatly told a gathering of senior party leaders that the Telugu Desam could not have any electoral ties with the BJP at the cost of Muslim votes.
Interestingly, the party had snapped ties with the BJP in 2002 accusing Modi for the Gujarat communal clashes.
However, the idea of tie-ups with the BJP is nothing new as far as Telangana TD leaders are concerned. Earlier, too, party leaders including Dayakar Rao, Ramulu, Revuri Prakash Reddy and others, had discussed the issue as they felt that a tie-up with the BJP in the region would be beneficial for the party in the region.
