Chandrababu Naidu U-turn part of a plan
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu’s open support to Samaikyandhra stir may have raised the spirits of the party men in the region, but it certainly has put Telangana TD leaders in a quandary.
Naidu’s all out attack on Congress decision to bifurcate AP, without addressing Seemandhra region issues, is little short of a U-turn. His claim that he stopped Telangana during NDA rule to support Seemandhra agitation has not gone down well with T-TD leaders.
Going by Naidu’s speeches during his ongoing “Telugu Jathi Atma Gourava Yatra” in Guntur district, it’s clear that he has given up hopes on Telangana like YSRC and is focusing on Seemandhra. From supporting Telangana, seeking Rs 4 to 5 lakh crore for a new capital and justice to Seemandhra region, Naidu made several U-turns in the past six years.
“Naidu seems to have given up hopes in the Telangana region. If you look at the ground reality, voters will back the Congress-TRS combine. The TD will not have much space in Telangana,” a senior TD leader told Deccan Chronicle.
Sources said Naidu held lengthy discussion with party leaders from both regions on the plan to be taken before hitting the road. In a clever move, he doesn’t demand Samaikyandhra in view of TD’s approval for bifurcation but instead backs Samaikyandhra movement! Out of 75 odd MLAs, the TD has 31 MLAs in Telangana which is a fairly strong base.
“The TD has a strong base and is better established in both the regions compared to the YSRC and other parties, except Congress. With bifurcation, Congress will sweep Telangana. Naidu had no option but to save the TD in Seemandhra,” another TD leader said.
