Kunhalikutty with members of ruling LDF and IUMl,a partner in congress led UDF Opposition engaging in heated arguments and coming near to blows leading to adjournment of the house for 25 minutes.
The political heat generated in Kerala politics over the recent disclosure that alleged attempts had been made to scuttle the original case had its echo in the assembly when CPI-M member P.K. Shyalaja through a calling attention wanted the government to re-open the case and punish the guilty.
Remark of Shyalaja that guilt of Kunhalikutty had been proved angered the IUML members who said that Kunhalikuty was not even an accused in the case and Shayalaja was making 'untrue' statements in the house.
CPI-M member V Sivankutty, who was siting next to Shyalaja, moved towards one of the IUML member Abdurahiman Randathani who was strongly disrupting the speech of Shyalaja. However, a timely intervention of State Minister for Ports P. Surendran Pilla averted a virtual blow between the members, as other members sitting nearby also joined them.
With tension mounting in the assembly,Speaker K. Radhakrishan adjounred the house and called the floor leaders of the coalitation parties for a discussion.
When house re-assembled after the short recess Radhakrishnan asked members to observe discipline and said it was not a good practice for members to move from their seats and rush towards the seat of other members.
He also said reference on Kunhalikuty that his guilt had been proved would be removed from the assembly records.
Later, replying to the calling attention, State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that a Special police team had been set up to probe into the revelations of K A Rauf, a close relative of Kunhalikuty, that he on behalf of the latter had influenced the judiciary and also the witnesses in the case to keep Kunhalikuty out of the case.
Allegation that two judges of the Kerala high court had been bribed to get orders in favour of Kunhalikutty would be brought to the notice of high court, he said adding it was for the high court to examine that aspect.
Certain matters under prevention of corruption act had also come out against Kunhalikuty, he said adding Vigilance Porbe would be ordered into the aspects connected with Prevention of Corruption Act.
The India Vision Television channel that telecast the statements of Rouf through a sting operation had been asked to submit all related CDs to take further action in the case, he added.
