Charity auto-rickshaw run from Cochin to Shillong begins
Seventy-one teams from more than 20 countries will participate in a 4,000-km auto-rickshaw run from Cochin to Shillong to raise funds for charities.
Organised by UK-based The Adventurists, the auto-rickshaw run begins from Cochin on Sunday and will end on April 30.
The adventure will raise over £ 80,000 for official charities in India, a statement from the organisers said.
"Easy journeys are boring journeys, so they are driving three-wheeled auto-rickshaws designed for short urban hops, therefore, guaranteeing adventure in spades when they hit the road," it said.
The event is not a race and there is no prize for arriving first. The prizes will be awarded to the teams who will have the most splendid adventures along the way, it said.
The funds raised would be shared by two organizations, International Rescue Corps and SCAD (Social Change and Development).
International Rescue Corps mobilises teams anywhere in the world in response to natural and man-made disasters.
SCAD runs a variety of projects and programmes for the poor in India in the areas of Education, Health and Community organisation and development.
