Charminar bomb hoax springs cops into action
Hyderabad: A phone call, informing about a bomb inside the historic Charminar, kept the police, the bomb squad and sniffer dogs busy for about an hour on Friday afternoon. However, after evacuating the area and carrying out a detailed search, the police found the call to be a hoax.
At 2.15 pm, the police control room received a call regarding a bomb inside the Charminar. Cops and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and carried out a thorough search in and around the monument and nearby shops. They also checked all vehicles parked in the vicinity, but found nothing.
Charminar assistant commissioner of police M. Ram Mohan Rao said, “An unknown person called the police control room. However, the bomb disposal squad did not find anything. We are in process of tracing the call.”
Meanwhile, the Friday prayers passed off peacefully in the city. Interestingly, the GHMC has cleared all the small stones from the area to avoid stone-pelting incidents.
