Chavan heads to Delhi for meet
Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and home minister R.R. Patil will be in New Delhi on Monday, to participate in a conference of all heads of states on internal security to be chaired by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
“Mr Chavan will leave for New Delhi on Sunday from Pune after attending a function organised by the department of social justice in Aurangabad,” a statement issued by the CM’s office read.
According to sources, the CM is likely to use the opportunity to discuss many ongoing issues affecting the state with the PM, as well as the Congress high command and UPA president Sonia Gandhi.
The issues include the CAG report leak, the interim report on the Adarsh Scam submitted to the state by Justice G.A. Patil Commission, and the general situation of the Congress in the state, sources said.
Discussion on the leaked CAG report is important, as it has named many Congress ministers from Mr Chavan’s cabinet and Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Further, there are rumors that the party’s central leadership has taken “serious” cognisance of complaints from within the party about Mr Chavan’s style of functioning. One of those who, allegedly spoke with the party top brass was senior Congressman and spokesperson Anant Gadgil.
