Chavan: I’ll take along all, be fully transparent
Maharashtra CM-designate Prithviraj Chavan said Wednesday his priority was to provide a “transparent administration” and “take everyone along” to provide the state a good government.
Talking to reporters after the announcement that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had chosen him as the next CM, Mr Chavan said: “We have been running a coalition in Maharashtra with the NCP since 1999. It is not correct to say (I don’t have good relations with NCP).”
He disagreed with a questioner who asked if state politics would be difficult for him after having been in national politics a long time, and said: “I am confident I will be able to deliver with the help and cooperation of all.”
Taking over after his predecessor Ashok Chavan was forced to resign following the Adarsh scam, Mr Chavan skirted questions on what action he would take against those involved. “I don’t want to say anything.”
He sidestepped a query if he was Rahul Gandhi’s choice.
“I won’t say that. The Congress president asked me, it was the high command’s decision, not one man’s.”
