Chavan: Ready for tough decisions
The new Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and the new deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar both spoke in tandem about having a transparent government that would strive for all-pervasive development of the state. The CM has made it amply clear that he would be a no-nonsense leader and has emphasised that he would be taking some tough decisions. He also highlighted the issue of the state expecting a lot of aid from the Central government to achieve its short and long term goals.
“I have come back home after a long journey. Today, the nation has emerged as a superpower. This is an opportunity for me to achieve the development of the state along with that of the nation. We will strive for overall development of the state,” said the CM before taking charge of the top office in Mantralaya.
While emphasising on transparency, Mr Chavan said that his experience in Delhi, especially the six years he spent at the Primes Minister’s Office, has resulted in his becoming well versed in the art of running coalition governments. He added that he would ensure that everyone involved in the administration process would focus on transparency in all activities.
The CM also expressed concern over the divide amongst people in the state where millionaires are getting richer while the number of victims of starvation keeps growing.
The CM added that the citizens of the state had the ability to take the state to the height of prosperity.
He said that the state had everything and that finance was not a problem, but admitted that one would have to focus more on planning and willpower.
