Check on claims by health brands
Union health ministry wants verification of claims made by healthcare products. The ministry is planning to take appropriate steps to verify such claims and if found to be incorrect, it will take actions against manufacturers of these products.
Expressing doubts over such claims, minister of state for health Mr Dinesh Trivedi said he wants verification of the claims and action against the advertisers if they are found incorrect. In a letter to health secretary Ms K. Sujatha Rao, the minister has written that of late several products are being marketed through aggressive advertising campaigns in electronic and print media highlighting their value for good health. While some of these products claim to be good for cholesterol and others for ailments like diabetes, blood pressure, there is no mention of any scientific basis for such claims, the minister has noted.
The minister has noted that such claims are often advertised through media.
