Chennai boy tops IIT-JEE
Anumula Jithendar Reddy from Madras zone topped the IIT-Joint Entrance Examination 2010 from amongst a total of 13,104 candidates who cleared the examination. Over 4.5 lakh candidates had appeared in JEE-2010 for seeking admission to 9,509 seats in 15 IITs, ISM Dhanbad and IT-BHU.
Amongst the girls who appeared in the test, Aakanksha Tushar Sarda emerged the topper with an all-India rank of 18. A total of 1.13 lakh girls appeared in the test, of which 1,476 qualified.
A statement released by IITs stated that amongst the seven zones IIT Bombay zone produced maximum number of successful candidates with 3,145 students figuring in the merit list followed by IIT Madras (2,619), IIT Delhi (2,264), IIT Kharagpur (1,481), IIT Kanpur (1,341), IIT Roorkee (1,305) and IIT Guwahati (521). The number of candidates who appeared in JEE-2010 is nearly 18.3 per cent more than that in the previous year.
Unlike the previous years, there will be no Scheduled Castes preparatory list as the number of successful SC candidates are more than the available seats for them.
This year, 2,357 OBC candidates cleared the test, while 1,773 SCs, 517 STs and 174 physically challenged got through the test.
The statement said that the IITs will for the first time be conducting counselling online and the counselling website will open from tomorrow till June 12. “Candidates are expected to fill their choice of courses in all the participating institutes online commencing from May 30,” the statement added.
Candidates belonging to the general category need not report in person to any of the institutes for counselling.
