Chennai now has daily terror drill
Chennai: Move over Operation Hamla. The city police have now started doing anti-terror drill on a daily basis. “The idea is to sensitise people on the street, mall-owners and managers of lodges about the possibility of terror strike than doing it once in six months,” a senior police official noted.
Senior police officials’ team have charted out a daily anti-terror action plan for all the 12 police districts in the city. Every deputy commissioner in the city has formed an 8 to 10-member team headed by an inspector to conduct routine drills. “It will be a foreign consulate in some area on a particular day, while in the neighbouring police district it will be temples or mosques or churches.
The routine anti-sabotage check is conducted with the help of the local police station,” the official added. Senior officials in the city are of the opinion that instead of giving a knee-jerk reaction to a terror attack or terror alert, the police in Chennai should be doing the check on a daily basis.
It will help the police team gather information and build contacts. The officials should not depend on intelligence inputs to prepare themselves on possible attacks.
