Chief Minister: Split will hit T-farmers
Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, however, avoided commenting on critical issues like the Assembly resolution on Telangana, the rationale behind appealing to the Centre when the UPA had already decided to carve out a T-state, the locus standi of the Antony Committee and his own resignation.
Asked whether delays in the bifurcation would whip up emotions in Telangana, Kiran Kumar Reddy reiterated that the Centre should not proceed with the division before coming out with clear solutions. "Creating a bigger problem in their anxiety to create a new state is not a solution to the current problem," he said.
He also stressed that division would be detrimental to the interests of lakhs of farmers in Telangana because of the impending power crisis. As much as 65 per cent agriculture pump sets are in the region while power generation is only 57 million units per day against a demand of 115 MU. This is in contrast to power consumption of 76 MU in Andhra region against generation of 120 MU.
The CM also accused TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao of misleading farmers with a promise to bring 10,000 MW from Chhattisgarh since the installed capacity of the neighbouring state was only 6300 MW.
Regarding the TRS' promise of one lakh government jobs after division, the Chief Minister pointed out that a committee had found that 18,556 employees were in fact in excess of whom 4,062 were eligible for exemption.
As many as 14,794 employees were already repatriated, he pointed out.
