China envoy says ties are ‘very fragile’
Two days before Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao arrives here on a three-day visit, Beijing’s ambassador to Delhi Zhang Yan warned Monday that his country’s relations with India were “very fragile”, and needed “special care”.
He suggested at a Ficci conference that the government “should provide guidance to the public to avoid a war of words”. Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao said India had a “very commonsensical” and “very rational” approach to China. “Our Chinese friends are increasingly exposed to the vibrant, noisy nature of our democracy (where) many schools of thought contend, many opinions are expressed ... often at divergence with each other.”
