Chiranjeevi: Congress Jai Ho!
In what could be described a great boost to the Congress unit in the state, the Praja Rajyam leader and matinee idol, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, on Sunday announced the merger of his party with the Indian National Congress (INC).
The Congress immediately declared that the move was not aimed at countering the former party MP, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy. Chiranjeevi went on to declare that the merger was a historic occasion.
Elaborating the reasons for the merger, after meeting Mrs Sonia Gandhi in the national capital, Mr Chiranjeevi said, “Our party’s main plank is social justice. The Congress too has the same plank. So, in order to fight for the common cause, we have decided to merge our party with the Congress.”
Declaring that he was forced to launch a party as the late YSR’s regime was corrupt, he said, “Corruption was at its worst only during the reign of YSR.”
Patting the Congress he added, “Whenever there was a serious charge— be it the Commonwealth, Adarsh or the 2G spectrum scam, the Congress has always taken action.”
The senior leaders, Mr Veerappa Moily, and Mr A.K. Antony, were present during his meeting with Mrs Gandhi.
