Chiranjeevi gets Sonia’s call, says ready for any post
The Praja Rajyam chief, K. Chiranjeevi, who was summoned by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday evening starting rumours that he might be destined for a key position soon.
The Congress had promised a key post to Mr Chiranjeevi in lieu of the merger of his party with the Congress besides protecting the interests of PR MLAs and activists.
Talking to Deccan Chronicle, Chiranjeevi said he had come to Delhi to finalise the party’s merger with Congress. “I am ready to take up any responsibility given to me by the Congress leadership,” he said.
Soon after his arrival in New Delhi, he met the political adviser, Mr Ahmed Patel. He will meet the Union minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Wednesday.
“The Congress leadership will decide whether I should be in the state or at the Centre. But I am keen on staying amidst people,” he said to a query.
Mr Chiranjeevi, accompanied by the party MLC, Mr C. Ramachandraiah, is scheduled to meet Mrs Gandhi and Union minister and party in-charge of the Andhra Pradesh, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad.
It is, however, not clear what post Mr Chiranjeevi will be offered.
