Chiranjeevi to inaugurate Flamigo fete

Nellore: The SPSR Nellore district is spruced up for the three-day Flamingo Festival at Sullurpeta from January 8 to 10. Union Minister for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi will inaugurate the spectacular event at 10 am on Tuesday. Finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Red-dy and state tourism minister Vatti Vasantha Kumar and scores of people's representatives will participate in the picturesque event.
On the valedictory session on January 10, Asse-mbly speaker Nadendla Manohar will be the chief guest, while the other dignitaries will include social welfare minister Pithani Satyanarayana, former chi-ef minister N. Janardhan Reddy, Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan and Nellore MP Me-kapati Rajamohan Reddy.
The three-day festival will draw huge tourist crowd from all parts of Nellore, Chittoor, Prakasam and Tamil Nadu, while bird-watchers from all over India and abroad will also throng it. The three places of tourist attraction are Nelapattu, Bhumulavaripa-lem and Pulicat. Migratory birds could be seen in several swamps like stretches from Tada to Tupilipalem coast.
The region is a breeding ground for Spotted Billed Pelican (nearly threatened), Open-Billed Stork, Little Cormorant, White-Ibis and Night Heron and other ducks. The Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is a small fresh water tank with Barringtonia Acutangula trees spread in the water, which will be used by birds for nesting, particularly diverse species of waders and water birds.
The government departments have already reach-ed out to the venue - High School grounds at Sullur-peta - where the exhibition stalls would be put, apart from performing of cultural events in a big way.
The RTC is operating special buses through various vital routes in the district. In coordination with the Tamil Nadu transport services, special buses will be operated from Chennai.
